WHAT MAKES PIER 58 GLOUCESTER UNIQUE?
Financial Support for fishing industry
Ticket surcharges of only $2 to $3 per ticket would generate revenue of $100,000 to $200,000 per year. This revenue would put much needed funding back into Gloucester's economy and cover improvements to the marine industrial economy and infrastructure.
Year-round destination for visitors
Pier 58 Gloucester’s musical, theatrical & conference programming would attract people to Gloucester in the off-season months when tourists are less likely to visit. This would support the local & visitor-based economies that drop off during the shoulder season & winter months.
Financially Self-sustainable
Pier 58 Gloucester’s campaign includes the cost to build and maintain the Pier 58 Gloucester building. This means the building would pay for itself and would not rely on city funding or donor contributions to maintain and operate this space for many years to come.
Flexible Space
Performance hall? Conference center? Working waterfront? Classroom? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Pier 58 Gloucester’s flexible design would create spaces that appeal to many audiences and interests. Imagine planning a conference, learning, creating, working, celebrating and just having fun. The space would bring together Gloucester businesses or organizations for engaging group events and experiences.

Non-profit Status
Pier 58 Gloucester is certified as a 501©3 which means it is not run for profit. With revenue coming from ticket fees, conference revenue and an endowment, our non-profit model would create a self-sustaining business model where we would not be competing for fundraising dollars every year. This would put the revenue right back into the Gloucester community rather than diverting it to a for-profit enterprise.
Waterfront location
Blurring the lines between indoors and outside, the open design of Pier 58 Gloucester would offer mesmerizing views of Gloucester Harbor to showcase the working waterfront and the iconic views that have inspired artists for nearly 400 years. Pier 58 Gloucester’s location would link the waterfront with the downtown to transform the town culturally and economically by showcasing Gloucester’s heritage.
Centrally-located
Local businesses are essential to the vitality of our city. From Pier 58 Gloucester it would be a short walk to many restaurants and shops. With plenty of on-site and nearby parking, audiences could arrive early and stay longer to enjoy all downtown Gloucester has to offer.
Capacity for larger gatherings
Losing the Fuller School meant losing a large auditorium for student performances, the Cape Ann Symphony, debates and other important gatherings. Pier 58 Gloucester’s 600-person, state-of-the-art auditorium would offer a new solution in a convenient Gloucester location.
Focused on local fishing & maritime industries
Pier 58 Gloucester would be an immersive gathering hub for innovation. It would include enhanced dock access, on-site trainings for fisherman, interactive video screens of the harbor and ocean, discounted use of Pier 58 Gloucester facilities for local gatherings and a demonstration kitchen featuring Gloucester seafood. Pier 58 is committed to supporting Gloucester's Blue Economy.
Climate Change Ready
According to the Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management, most of the city’s shoreline will be subjected to flooding by 2030. Pier 58 Gloucester was intentionally designed on pilings in order to handle sea level rise. The added benefit of this design would be easy access for lobstermen to their trucks and fishing equipment through a beneath-the-building garage.
